Story published: Thursday, 4 February 2010
A record number of more than 200 delegates received a warm welcome to Yorkshire at this year’s UKinbound Convention 2010. The event has attracted tourism professionals from across the UK and is being hosted for the first time in York and Yorkshire. Featuring leading political and industry speakers the event has proved incredibly popular. The keynote speakers are the Rt Hon Margaret Hodge, Minister for Culture and Tourism, and Digby Lord Jones of Birmingham, former director of the CBI and former Minister of State for UK Trade and Investment.
The opening speech was given by Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire:
“This has been a fantastic opportunity to reach out to decision makers who can actively influence the number of visitors coming to the UK. Our job is to convince our partners in industry to bring them to Yorkshire. Our visitor economy is growing, but there’s always room for more and we always offer a warm welcome.”
The UKinbound Convention 2010 is being hosted in Yorkshire from 3 – 5 February and has attracted all sectors of the UK leisure inbound tourism industry, of which around 40% are attending the Convention for the first time.
