About Flamingo Land

Flamingo Land is a family-friendly theme park which also includes a zoo and a holiday resort. A cinema entrepreneur sold off his cinema chain and used the money to buy a country club and turn it into a zoo. In 1959 it became The Yorkshire Zoological Gardens. Some of the first animals in the zoo were a colony of flamingos. In 1968 it was renamed as Flamingo Park Zoo. When the site began to add rides and fixtures in the 1970s, it became the first location in Europe to combine a zoo and amusement park. The park was revamped in 1974 and finally became Flamingo Land. The zoo is involved in animal and forest conservation.

The theme park has several extreme rollercoasters for thrill-seekers, as well as plenty of tamer rides for people of all ages, and many areas just for families with children. Over the years, it has been divided into specifically themed sections. These include prehistoric dinosaurs, car racing, water, and the African Plains. The zoo houses a variety of birds, fish, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. There are both farm animals and exotic animals from around the world. The holiday resort offers a range of accommodations for visitors who want to spend a few days at the park. These bookings come with unlimited access during your stay.

Flamingo Land Opening Times

The open season at Flamingo Land ranges from the end of March to the beginning of November. While the theme park rides are closed in the off-season, the Winter Zoo is open with reduced admission rates. Opening times can vary depending on the weather or planned events, so it is better to check on the day before making the trip to Flamingo Land. Generally, the gates open at 9.30am every day and the rides and attractions are ready from 10am onwards. The park and zoo will close at either 5pm, 6pm, or 7pm. The planned closing time for the day will be posted in the admissions area of the park and online each morning.

Standard admission is the same for both adults and children over four years old. When you buy your tickets at the park on the day it will cost £40 per person, but you can save money by purchasing them online in advance for £34 per person. Tickets for 2 consecutive days or family saver tickets are available. Senior citizens and visitors with disabilities get a concessions rate of £27. There are also discounts available for group bookings and educational school trips. If you will be visiting the park a lot, then you can purchase an Annual Pass for £126. Families can buy Annual Passes for £430 if their family grouping is eligible for one.
